Pixel Concept

The FiOS installation went well today though not without a few hoops to jump through. I will have more on the installation process, setup, and a small comparison with Time Warner’s Road Runner Cable service; but for now I just wanted to show off the great speeds I’m getting.

What better way to start this off than to get a blazing fast connection? Verizon first started installing fiber on my street back in October. Since then I have been constantly checking for availability but was always met with a “Check back soon” type of message. But on Tuesday, my luck changed. Instead of the same old rejection note I was used to I was greeted with a “Congratulations”. I immediately placed an order and now have an appointment set for March, 5. The contractors already came by to drop some fiber from the street to my house which was easy since the rest of the cabling runs above ground rather than under it (see pics after the break). I can hardly wait until I have some 20/5 goodness to take advantage of. The countdown begins…

Welcome to the Pixel Concept blog. I have been wanting to start this up for well over a year now but always seemed to find an excuse not to do it. It all started when my good friend Gary (co-founder of Pixel Concept, and founder of Socal-Drift) started a blog of his own to which he asked me to contribute to. Unfortunately, we both had too much going on to keep up with it (you can still see it here for those that are curious) but I did enjoy having a medium through which I could deliver my thoughts on technology. In fact, there were two or three stories which we broke before the bigger ones picked it up. So now, a year later, and with some additional encouragement from Dave from homeservershow.com, I finally decided to give it another shot. So, what will this blog be about? Well I do not plan to compete with established tech news blogs like the big “e”. Instead, I will be writing more in depth pieces about technology such as editorials, analysis, and reviews. Once in a while I may post up some news but only if it has not been picked up elsewhere. Eventually I will probably focus more on cell phones and in depth reviews, but for now, I will keep it pretty open ended. There is still quite a bit of cleaning up and set up that has to be done but I wanted to get this off the ground. There will likely be many changes over the coming months as I find time to tweak the site but for now I hope you enjoy what you find here as much as will enjoy writing it. Welcome.
